Fishing lures: Tips for hooking lures for bass fishing
January 28th, 2008
In the arena of fishing tackle, the ingredient of greater importance is fishing lures. They come in wide variety of dimensions as per the nature of fishing is concerned.
Lures are the ones, which are mounted on the prescribed fishing reel or fishing rod. Though there are many areas and scopes for further discussion, we will confine our discussion to lures used especially for bass fishing kind and how they are hooked on to the fishing tackles.
Bass fishing
The sea bass and black bass fishes fall into this category and typically they are found in many parts of the world and are abundant on southern coastline of Spain and certain European countries. Normally fishing rod of 9wt and LA reel is used for bass fishing. A number of techniques are adopted out and it is important to keep in mind that the saltwater bass fishing can corrode or rupture almost all the tackles and lures, so they should be regularly cleaned.
Bass fishing lures
The bass fish are either small mouth or large mouth. Lure tech lures provide various spinners, jigs, buzz baits lures which are technically quite feasible. Bass shouldn’t be confused with special kind of fish; they just are sample names for many food fishes. They are either wise fall into the category of black, white or simply rock.
Hooking lures for Bass fishing
We divide the discussion into two separate entities, each for small mouth and large mouth bass as the lures and the hooking process vary accordingly.
Normally, large bass would fall for anything of any size. So worms, live baits, minnows etc can be applied as prey elements. The lure should preferably be associated with weeds. Though found in cold conditions, they prefer warmer conditions. Small mouth bass are found in transitional areas and we discuss the hooking process keeping all these points in concern.
The best bass lures manufactured are characteristically bright and are made from feathers. According to the process of hooking, they can further fall into types like as mentioned below.
For hooking, the weed guard mustn’t be very stiff or else it may cause problems while fishing, or may even break down. Some lures like spinner baits or plastic worms are normally weed resistant. Some fishing people often bend the hook slightly in order to accommodate proper space towards shank. This gives enough exposure for proper hooking of the lure and bass.
Precautions for hooking
The hook should be preferably set using the slack line method. The bass jaw is pretty strong and tough so the impact should be perfect and hook point should be able to penetrate accordingly. Bass often have this tendency to inhale the entire hook. So the hook must be reeled up properly and at perfect timing. The overreaction time of the caught up fish must be equally looked after.
The hook should always be set with proper upward jerk. If the rigging process is done correctly, the bass is going to hook itself sooner than later.
